Delusion in Death by J. D. Robb (In Death Book 35)

Delusion in Death by J. D. Robb (In Death Book 35)
After years on the force, Eve Dallas didn't think she could be shocked anymore... until now.

It was just another after-work happy-hour bar downtown, where business professionals unwound with a few drinks, complained about the boss, maybe hooked up with someone for the night. Until something went terribly wrong. At first it was just a friction in the air. The noise intensified. The crow seemed oppressive. some sharp words were exchanged, some pushing and shoving.

Then the madness descended. And after twelve minutes of chaos and violence, eighty people lay dead.

Eve Dallas is trying to sort out the inexplicable events. Surviving witnesses talk about seeing things—monsters and swarms of bees. They describe sudden, overwhelming feelings of fear and rage and paranoia. When forensics makes its report, the mass delusions make more sense: it appears the bar patrons were exposed to a cocktail of chemicals and illegal drugs that could drive people to temporary insanity—if not kill them outright.

But that doesn't explain who would unleash such horror—or why. Eve's husband, Roarke, happens to own the bar, yet he's convinced the attack wasn't directed at him. It's bigger than that. And if Eve can't figure it out fast, it could happen again, anytime, anywhere. Because it's airborne....

fall of giants

Fall of Giants
This is an epic of love, hatred, war and revolution. This is a huge novel that follows five families through the world-shaking dramas of the First World War, the Russian Revolution, and the struggle for votes for women. It is 1911. The Coronation Day of King George V. The Williams, a Welsh coal-mining family, is linked by romance and enmity to the Fitzherberts, aristocratic coal-mine owners. Lady Maud Fitzherbert falls in love with Walter von Ulrich, a spy at the German Embassy in London. Their destiny is entangled with that of an ambitious young aide to U.S. President Woodrow Wilson and to two orphaned Russian brothers, whose plans to emigrate to America fall foul of war, conscription and revolution. In a plot of unfolding drama and intriguing complexity, "Fall Of Gaints" moves seamlessly from Washington to St Petersburg, from the dirt and danger of a coal mine to the glittering chandeliers of a palace, from the corridors of power to the bedrooms of the mighty.

Winter of the World picks up right where the first book left off, as its five interrelated families—American, German, Russian, English, Welsh—enter a time of enormous social, political, and economic turmoil, beginning with the rise of the Third Reich, through the Spanish Civil War and the great dramas of World War II, up to the explosions of the American and Soviet atomic bombs.

winter of the worldCarla von Ulrich, born of German and English parents, finds her life engulfed by the Nazi tide until she commits a deed of great courage and heartbreak. . . . American brothers Woody and Chuck Dewar, each with a secret, take separate paths to momentous events, one in Washington, the other in the bloody jungles of the Pacific. . . . English student Lloyd Williams discovers in the crucible of the Spanish Civil War that he must fight Communism just as hard as Fascism. . . . Daisy Peshkov, a driven American social climber, cares only for popularity and the fast set, until the war transforms her life, not just once but twice, while her cousin Volodya carves out a position in Soviet intelligence that will affect not only this war—but the war to come.

These characters and many others find their lives inextricably entangled as their experiences illuminate the cataclysms that marked the century. From the drawing rooms of the rich to the blood and smoke of battle, their lives intertwine, propelling the reader into dramas of ever-increasing complexity.

Black Knights Inc. Series by Julie Ann Walker (Books 1 to 3)

The series: Black Knights Inc. is a group of ex-military men and women work under the guise of a custom motorcycle shop, but behind closed doors they carry out supersecret government missions. Author Julie Ann Walker says it is Sons of Anarchy meets 007. And, of course, there's lots of sexy romance along the way.

Why you should read this series: I love male camaraderie, and Julie Ann Walker has created a group of alpha men, all ex-military, who give each other a hard time, make each other laugh, and will risk their lives for one another in a heartbeat. Paired with some strong women who give back just as hard, this series has lots of action, humor and some nice sexual tension.

Hell on Wheels (book one, out now): Ex-marine Nate Weller's best friend died while they were on a mission together, and Nate has never recovered. He carries a deep, dark secret around, pushing everyone else away. But when his late friend's sister arrives at Black Knights Inc., with a bad guy on her tail, he pushes aside his guilt to get to the bottom of her problems. Ali isn't stupid and knows her brother was mixed up with something secretive before his death. Luckily, she turns to Nate and his friends for help, and she slowly chips through Nate's brooding, cold exterior to win his heart.

In Rides Trouble (book two, Sept. 4): Boss man and former SEAL Frank Knight has had a crush on much younger motorcycle mechanic Becky Reichert ever since he bought into her business to use as his cover years ago. They annoy each other to no end, yet underneath there is a fire burning between them, but they are both too stubborn to act on it. When Becky is vacationing with her friend in the Indian Ocean and they get kidnapped by Somali pirates, Frank and his team have to save the day. As they recover from various injuries, they finally have a chance to admit to the other what their true feelings are.

Rev it Up (book three, October 2012): From the back cover: Career soldier Jake "The Snake" Sommers has made a few mistakes in his life, but none so terrible as forsaking the only woman he's ever loved. But he's finally conquered his inner demon, the one that thirsted only for blood. So, now he's back. And he's not leaving without Michelle. Unfortunately, her enemy has other plans. Plans to see her dead.

Michelle Carter has never forgiven Jake for abandoning her all those years ago. Now he's suddenly back, after she's finally begun to make a life for herself. But her safe, orderly world is about to be blown apart. With a psychotic Las Vegas mobster gunning for her, she has no choice but to turn to Jake. Only there's more at stake than her life. As they all head for a showdown, something that was never meant to be revealed is suddenly thrown into the light. And with a secret this hot, there's bound to be an explosion.
